Home Learning Expectations
Reading
In Class 4 we support and encourage your child to further develop their love of reading. By this stage, the majority of children will be independent readers and our expectation is that children read each day. The children are welcome to bring books from home but are also encouraged to widen their reading range by choosing from our ever-growing book corner.
Book monitors will help in ensuring the book corner is well stocked and will also ask for book reviews.
Spelling
Spelling tests or investigations are set each week. These words will belong to a word group. In order to make the test more meaningful and add greater depth of understanding there are additional tasks beyond simply learning the spellings. These will support the children in making links, identifying patterns and deepening grammatical understanding.
The spellings will be tested and discussed each Friday morning
Maths
Maths is taught using the materials of the White Rose Maths Hub. This uses the expectations from the National Curriculum and provides a comprehensive scheme which offers challenge as well as a robust curriculum. The children will develop their fluency of key mathematical skills and then move on to use their skills to reason and problem solve.
Children will be given weekly maths homework to complete. This will be linked to the topic that they have been covering in class, or will be a recap of basic skills. Homework should be handed in by Friday morning of each week.
Children will be tested on their rapid recall of multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12 every Friday.
